Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We realize that coming to a chiropractor may be a new experience for you and that you most likely have questions about chiropractic in general and this office and doctor in particular. Even if you've had chiropractic care in the past you probably still have questions. It is our intention to answer all questions honestly and completely.

What will happen during the first visit?

Before determining if chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition, I will take a complete history focusing on possible sources of trauma. These sources of trauma could include a difficult birth, falling out of a tree, poor nutrition, chemical poisons, chronic fear, abuse, or any of the other dangers that we humans face. You will then be examined.

The examination will include a variety of palpation (feeling for restrictions of movement), visual analysis, orthopedic, neurological, and muscle strength tests. Your spine and posture will be closely evaluated. Most commonly treatment, consisting of a variety of chiropractic instrument adjusting and myofascial release techniques, will be done during the examination process to determine how well you respond to treatment. If your history and examination warrent further testing or x-rays, arrangements will be made for you to receive those services.

Will Chiropractic treatments hurt?

There is generally very little discomfort with treatment, most people find it relaxing. However, everyone is different in their perception and tolerance of pain. Please let us know if you feel uncomfortable or threatened by any procedures. This not only insures you of a comfortable experience, it also gives us valuable information about your condition. If some discomfort is necessary to perform a procedure, we will inform you and ask your permission before continuing. We can always use less pressure, if needed.

How long will it take to get better?

The time it takes to recover will depend on the circumstances of your life. Symptoms of pain are often reduced with just a few treatments. Deeper healing of trauma induced structural changes takes longer. Factors that affect your response to chiropractic care include: age, nutritional status, heredity, chronicity, history of trauma, degree of damage and degeneration of nerves and other tissues, timing and follow through of chiropractic care and your cooperation with home care.

How much will it cost?

Cost will vary depending on the severity of your condition and the type of care that is needed. Please feel free to ask about our fees at any time. Many insurance policies cover chiropractic care. If yours does, we will file all insurance claims and accept payment from your insurance carrier. It is our intention to be affordable, please let us know if financial pressure is affecting your health care decisions. We may be able to make arrangements that you can work with. Numerous studies show that chiropractic care is lower in cost and more effective than other care for many condition.
